Twitter Hack Articles on TechCrunch.com Explain It All
This is Jennifer Korol coming at you on my blog with Industry News. This just in! If you have read my last post, you will see that some alarming news hit the Twittersphere. A “grand theft auto” internet hacker had accessed multiple high profile Twitter accounts on the social venue and is causing quite a stir. The accounts that have been hacked into include the President of Twitter, Evan Williams, and his Wife through their Gmail account, according to TechCrunch Authors Nik Cubrilovic and Erick Schonfeld.
A number of Twitter employees’ personal accounts have also been hacked into bearing an estimated total of 310 recovered documents from their servers. Other high profile accounts that have felt this wave of attack include the profiles of Brittany Spears and Ashton Kutcher. No, this does not mean war and it most certainly should not threaten your livelihood on Twitter. The President of the major social network and his staff are working hard to beef up the security. Nik Cubrilovic from TechCrunch stated, “It’s clear that Twitter was completely unaware of how deeply they were affected as a company – when Williams said that most of the information wasn’t company related he believed it. It wasn’t until later that he realized just how much and what kind of information was taken. It included things like financial projections and executive meeting notes that contained highly confidential information.”, (Nik Cubrilovic, Twitter, 2009).
This does, indeed sound like a very disturbing report to make. However, Twitter has used the diplomacy and intelligence that of an FBI Agent when discovering this remarkable information:
“Hacker Croll” is a Frenchman in his early 20’s. He currently resides in a European country and first discovered his interest in web security over two years ago. Currently in between jobs, he has made use of the additional time he now has, along with his acquired skillset, to break into both corporate and personal accounts across the web. His knowledge of web security has been attained through a combination of materials available to the public and from within a tight-knit group of fellow crackers who exchange details of new, and sometimes unknown, techniques and vulnerabilities. Despite the significance and impact a successful attack has, the cracker claims that his primary motivation is a combination of curiosity, exploration and an interest in web security.”, (Nik Cubrilovic, 2009).
Since “Hacker Croll” seems to have no formal education regarding web security, his virtual persona can almost strike one as a faceless phantom. Apparently he and his group of “crackers” have become very obvious to the public eye through the popular word of TechCrunch. With that in mind, they cannot possibly be real hackers and would not pose any continued threat. Think about this situation for a moment. Say you’re an unskilled and uneducated hacker who somehow hit the jackpot through a popular social media website’s highest profiles. You even “nailed the ball to the wall” by nabbing the wallet of the President himself. You may think you have won the battle when you stand in front of the mirror howling, “I am God!” Suddenly, there is media everywhere about the multiple occurances on the most popular blogs, websites, and social networks. Better yet, the news about your paper trails made it onto blogs such as mine. You think to yourself, “I am famous!” In one sense you are infamous, but you miss the point – oh, dear Watson. You are caught and you will be dealt with.
There is also another TechCrunch article, In Our Inbox: Hundreds Of Confidential Twitter Documents, published by, Michael Arrington giving us a past investigation posted on July 14, 2009.
For everyone reading this blog, do not let this man/group make you feel insecure or too afraid to live in the virtual world. Keep moving on and keep your systems secure. Take a view at the secondary source reports from Industry News and stay aware…

Where are The Newest Twitter Apps?
Here are some of the Twitter Apps that I find very useful. Most of the time, we’re up on things like Tweetdeck. If you have ever downloaded and used Tweetdeck, you know how frustrating it can be to sit in front of your screen all day, every day. These might be of help to you when marketing or growing your business in ways that have not been explored.
Here is a video I did recently and during my 90 Day Challenge
